Discover the timeless choice: metal braces. The classic braces, crafted from top-quality stainless steel and paired with elastic ties, have been creating dazzling smiles for generations. They work delicately to align your teeth just right. Plus, with Jordan Orthodontics, you can kickstart your journey to a perfect smile on the very same day you visit us!

Clear Braces

Clear (or ceramic) braces are less noticeable on the teeth because they’re either clear or tooth colored. As with metal braces, ceramic brackets gradually realign your teeth to help perfect your smile. They’re a popular braces option for adults because they’re a bit more discreet than metal braces.

I interviewed multiple orthodontists when it was time to get braces for my kids. I knew Dr. Jordan and his staff were the most qualified by far from the moment I met him. The first orthodontist I met with insisted my kids needed teeth pulled immediately...and that "time was running out to get expanders for them." Just know that if an orthodontist recommends this - run!! Pulling teeth should be the very last option. It's a lazy approach that will ultimately compromise your child's jaw shape and smile in the long run. Dr. Jordan took one look at my kids and said - "let's wait a bit for more baby teeth to fall out and see what happens to the spacing." That was the right move. My son had a tooth grow into the roof of his mouth... and within a couple of months, Dr. Jordan and his team pulled that tooth forward and his teeth look amazing! My daughter just got her top braces off after only 8 months... and her teeth are perfect! Beyond Dr. Jordan's obvious suburb experience, his staff is amazing at what they do... and everyone is extremely kind. My family actually ENJOYS going to the orthodontist. Also - they are ALWAYS on time and super accommodating with scheduling. Dr. Jordan and his team go above and beyond - and our family highly recommends them!

We love Dr. Jordan! He was my orthodontist in my middle school years and now at 43, my kids see him. I drive 45 minutes to see him because I trust him. There are so many dental drs that push unnecessary and costly treatments. Dr. J will only recommend something if it is needed. He’s the best! I hope he doesn’t retire until my kids are out of braces 😂

We would like to highly recommend Jordan Orthodontics 🙌Our son completed about a year and 8 months of braces treatment there, and we can honestly say the experience was excellent from start to finish. The care was highly professional, combined with a warm, kind, and patient approach at every visit. Appointments were easy to schedule, everything ran smoothly, and Dr. Jordan consistently followed up and personally monitored our son progress throughout the entire process. We chose this clinic after consulting with five other orthodontic offices, and it quickly became clear that the approach here is different. There was no pressure to undergo unnecessary preliminary treatments like extractions or any “scare tactics” — just honest, transparent, and professional guidance. We are extremely happy with both the process and the results. We’ve already recommended Jordan Orthodontics to many friends who have since gone there as well, and everyone has been very satisfied 😊We are confident that if we ever need additional treatment in the future, we will return only here and continue recommending them.

What foods should I avoid while I have braces?

There is really only a small list of foods to avoid while wearing braces. This is to avoid damaging the brackets or to prevent food particles from becoming trapped between the brackets and wires. Foods to avoid include:

  • Chewy foods such as fruit leathers, beef jerky, or bagels
  • Highly crunchy foods like raw carrots, chips, raw celery, and popcorn
  • Sticky foods like caramel candy, licorice, and marshmallows
  • Very hard foods like hard candy, hard breadsticks, or pizza crust
  • Any food you have to bite into such as apples or corn on the cob. You can still enjoy these foods by slicing the apples or removing the corn from the cob!
How do I brush my teeth with braces?
  1. Before brushing, do a quick rinse with water to dislodge any food particles stuck between the wires or brackets.
  2. Beginning at the gum line, brush using a 45-degree angle of approach. As you move towards the brackets, brush from both the top and the bottom, ensuring that the bristles reach under the wires and around the brackets. This process may take some extra time in the beginning but will soon become routine!
  3. Follow up with thorough flossing. You will need to use precise and careful flossing techniques to make sure you do not dislodge or loosen the brackets or wires. Dr. Jordan will help you perfect your flossing technique during your first appointment.
Are braces painful? How do I ease the pain?

Generally, braces are not painful. However, you may feel a little soreness or discomfort immediately after you first get them. This is completely normal, and it will not last long.

A saltwater rinse can help relieve any soreness and inflammation. In a full cup of lukewarm water, dissolve a single teaspoon of salt and swish around your mouth for a few minutes. If soreness persists, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen. If you experience lip, cheek, or tongue irritation in the weeks after getting braces, applying a small amount of dental wax can alleviate the problem quickly.

How long will I have to have braces?

The million-dollar question. How long you will need to wear braces varies, depending on several things, such as the severity of your bite problem. Most patients need to wear braces for 12 to 24 months, but this can be shorter or longer depending on your case. We’ll discuss this with you and give you a general idea of what you can expect.

After several months of wearing braces, we can measure progress more easily, and provide a more accurate update regarding how much longer you can expect to wear braces.

I’ve heard of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs). What are they, and will I need them?

With severe bite problems and/or patients with missing teeth, orthodontists used to need external anchor points to precisely control the adjustment of out-of-place teeth. The solution was often unfortunate looking and inconvenient—think headgear and external braces.

That is, until Temporary Anchorage Devices or TADs came along. Using an anchor attached to the jawbone, TADs eliminate the need for headgear and other uncomfortable treatments by providing an extra anchor point inside the mouth. They’re a safe and effective way to provide more exact orthodontic treatment for patients who need it—and not everyone does. Dr. Jordan will know whether TADs are right for you and can advise you about them during your consultation.

Can I get braces that are less noticeable?

Absolutely! One popular option for less noticeable braces is clear braces. In the same way that traditional metal braces use stainless steel brackets and wires to guide your teeth into the correct position, ceramic brackets are white or clear ceramic that blend in with your teeth.

How much do braces cost in Alpharetta?

The cost of braces depends on which type of braces you choose, how long you will need treatment, and other factors unique to your case. Jordan Orthodontics offers payment plans that can work with your budget and get you the orthodontic care you need.
